BEHIND THE CUP
Introducing our Exceptional Bekele Kachara Lot: A True Sidama Gem
Discover the exquisite flavours of our Bekele Kachara, sourced directly from the renowned Daye Bensa region in Sidama. This exceptional lot is a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship of the 86 talented local smallholders who contribute their meticulously hand-picked cherries to the washing station.
At the heart of this operation is a team of four dedicated full-time employees, who swell to a team of twelve during the bustling harvest months from mid-October to January. Nestled within a sprawling 12-hectare site, the Bekele Kachara washing station is a beacon of excellence in coffee production.
Enveloped by the lush embrace of native trees, our coffee trees thrive under the nurturing shade canopy, creating an ideal environment for growth. This natural ecosystem ensures the soil remains perfectly moist and abundant with essential nutrients, producing exceptional coffee beans.
Sustainability lies at the core of the farming practices embraced by our dedicated farmers. Water conservation takes centre stage, with innovative ridge irrigation systems meticulously constructed to maintain soil and tree health. By utilising organic fertilisers composed of nutrient-rich sources and discarded coffee cherries, our farmers prioritise the long-term vitality of their precious coffee trees.
The Bekele Kachara is a testament to the artistry of natural processing, where time-honoured techniques are employed to achieve unparalleled quality. Slowly dried on raised beds, each coffee bean absorbs the gentle whispers of the sun, infusing it with a depth of flavour that is simply unmatched.
