What You Need:
- GOOD LIFE COFFEE (Ground Coarse): 16g
- A Kettle
- 250ml Water
- Coffee Scales
- Timer
- Cafetière
Coffee to Water Ratio:
- We use approximately a 1:16 coffee to water ratio.
We'll use 16g of coffee to 250ml of water.
Step-by-Step Brew Guide:
Step 1: Preheat Your Cafetière
Boil some water. Pour the hot water into your cafetière to warm it up. Discard the water after the cafetière is warm.
Step 2: Measure Your Coffee
Place your cafetière on the coffee scales. Weigh 15g of coarse-ground GOOD LIFE COFFEE.
Step 3: Boil and Cool the Water
Boil the water and let it cool for a minute. Aim for a temperature of approximately 93-94°C.
Step 4: Start the Brew
Zero the scales. Pour 250ml of hot water into the cafetière, ensuring all coffee grounds are saturated. Start your timer as soon as the water touches the grounds. Weigh your water as you pour (250ml of water equals 250g).
Step 5: Initial Steep
Allow the coffee to steep for 4 minutes. After 4 minutes, stir the coffee gently to break the crust that forms on the surface. Let it sit for an additional 5 minutes to allow the grounds to settle.
Step 6: Plunge and Serve
Place the lid on the cafetière. Carefully press the plunger down with steady pressure, stopping just before it reaches the bottom. This helps avoid disturbing the coffee sediments at the bottom, ensuring a cleaner cup. Pour the brewed coffee into a warmed mug and enjoy your delicious cafetière coffee!
Tips for the Best Cafetière Coffee:
- Grind Size: Ensure your coffee is ground to a coarse consistency, similar to granulated sugar.
- Water Temperature: Use water that's around 93-94°C to prevent over-extraction and bitterness.
- Steeping Time: Adhering to the 4+5 minute steeping method ensures balanced extraction and flavor.
- Clean Equipment: Always start with a clean cafetière to avoid unwanted flavors.
By following these steps, you'll achieve a beautifully balanced and flavorful cafetière coffee every time. Enjoy the process and the delicious results!
